Welcome To The U.S.! What Spotify Can Expect When It Arrives

by arnteriksen on April 28, 2011

I’m a huge fan of Spotify – and it’s taking more and more over as the main music hub in my life. It has been in the news quite a few times that it will come to the U.S. which I would expect to be received as good news over there. Granted they already have a few other good services, and we’re all waiting to see what and when apple and iTunes will come with an online streaming service, but I do really hope that Spotify will make it. Not only because I’m from Scandinavia, or that one of my close friends are working there, nor the fact that I’m co-operating with them on a side-project I have – but simply because I find their service to be awesome. :)

This article from TechCrunch has good insight and thought of what Spotify might expect when it arrives. I especially liked this quote:

The bottom line: the game’s changing. And getting more interesting. Technology’s making this a competition on content, not geography. I predict listeners will care a lot less about where you’re from than what you’ve got. Soon we’ll find out who’s got what. Welcome to America. Contrary to popular opinion, not everyone gets a trophy just for showing up.

A great point of view – not only for Spotify – but a good summary of how technology and the web is made of today. It is all about competition on content, it’s not about borders, countries and geography. When the mayor players with in the movie and music industry finally wakes up and smells the coffee, it might be to late – but time will show. These are interesting times indeed.

What is your take on Spotify?
